Caldera is located 75 km northwest of Copiapo. Founded in 1852 it was the port city of Copiapo for the export of ore from the mine Chañarcillo. It is today one of the largest resorts in the region.
Caldera has three bays, connected by paved roads: the first, palya Mansa is located opposite the city town. Brava beach is located at the north end and finally Loreto 3 km to the south.
During the year, the port exports a variety of products ranging from first grapes for international markets, to copper. There is also an important activity of artisanal and industrial fishing.
Visit the San Vicente church, built in 1862. Towards the coast lies the railway station built in 1850.
